Guiding Principle: Individuals and families must live in clean, safe and vibrant urban community environments with a strong infrastructure resulting in healthy communities that provide access to services and resources that holistically address a continuum of health and wellness for all urban Aboriginal people in Winnipeg.
The objectives in this sector will assist in the development of a comprehensive Urban Aboriginal health strategy. The Aboriginal community faces many health issue which are not responsive to the current health services available. Current services do not generally incorporate the unique needs of the Aboriginal community. The activities of this sector will provide for a Health service delivery specific to the Aboriginal community of Winnipeg, which is consistent with the principles of Aboriginal governance, autonomy, and culture base and community responsiveness. This kind of Health service delivery will also have a direct impact on the achievement and sustainability of a strong family unit. A healthy family is the basis of a healthy community.
