Operations and Organizational Capacity
The objective of this section is to develop the capacity to effectively utilize the existing resources to fulfill the mandate of the ACW. The activities will include a strategic plan to increase the capacity of the ACW to meet the needs of the urban Aboriginal community of Winnipeg.
The Council continues to be involved in joint management committee activities with the governments of Manitoba and Canada. The Council is maintaining an effective joint management committee relationship with the governments of Manitoba and Canada and actively participating in joint management committee negotiations. Quarterly reports will be submitted along with other necessary reporting to the governments.
To ensure that the Aboriginal Council of Winnipeg Inc. is adhering to accountability standards and promotes self-regulation within the organization, the ACW will continue to commit to principles of ethical behavior and responsible administration. The Council will undertake a complete review and revision of the organization's constitution and by-laws, leading up to the development of a long term strategy for ACW.
This component will include objectives that will increase the capacity of ACW to fulfill the mandate with sufficient resources. This will include the implementation of a communications strategy which ensures the active presence of ACW in the urban Aboriginal community in the City of Winnipeg. The ACW will continue to act with accessible and responsive leadership that is transparent and accountable to its constituents. This will be reflected in the continued discussions with Aboriginal organizations, the website polling features and other political groups to foster positive working relationships and gain insight into the grassroots perceptions and opinions Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people have on current Aboriginal issues and news. The Council will continue to conduct community consultations on ACW initiatives that will focus on Housing, Economic Development, Aboriginal Arts, Language & Culture, Justice & Human Rights, Health & Wellness and Families. The objectives will be to provide the Council with a strong political environment within the Aboriginal community that can effectively address the issues and concerns of the community and maximize the limited resources earmarked for the urban Aboriginal population of Winnipeg.
